100% of Those Surveyed Willing to Take Surveys

Have you ever been cold called to take a survey?  Have you done it?  No one I know has admitted it.

What about when you are walking down the street?  Are you willing to talk to the person with the clipboard?  Very, very few seem even willing to say “no thank you” before moving on.

Every day I read or watch some news story about some survey results.  Sometimes they let you in on the demographics of those who took the survey, but in the end, they’re all survey takers - those people willing to just stop whatever they’re doing and answer random questions.  There’s a certain type of person willing to do that and that alone makes me not represented in any survey result I’ve seen.

Hey, More HD

I always love finding more HD.  While I rarely do it, I was scanning most of the channel lineup, just looking for something different after watching another good episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.

The HD channels are in the 700s, with a few Starz HD channels right before it, in the high 600s.

Randomly, at 195 and 196 were USA HD and CNBC HD.  I tried to tune in, but both were black.  A simple reset of my cable box cured that and now I’m watching the US Open in HD on USA.  I assume both channels were added for the US Open, similar to how TBS HD was quickly added for MLB playoffs last year.  Unless, of course, they were added a couple of weeks ago for the Olympics, and I simply missed out (which is more likely, and I’d rather think out loud than go back and edit this paragraph).

Either way, USA is one of those stations I’ve been wanting to get in HD.  Hopefully most programs and movies air in HD and not stretch-o-vision.

Now if they could only add Sci-Fi HD before Battlestar Galactica starts up again…

Update Aug 30: Well, both new HD channels are gone, confirming it was just for the Olympics.  Double confirmed it by checking out AVS Forum, which is really the only place I was able to find out about this (in the TWC NYC thread).

Bacon Floss

Yeah, that’s right, bacon floss.

It’s exactly what it should be, outside of actually being bacon you floss with.

Adsense Coming to Twitter?

I was sending one of my random twits to a non-Twitter friend and I noticed how wonderfully white the page was.  I was curious how much code went into creating that nice blank page so I took a look at the source.

I was a little surprised to see Google Adsense in there.  It’s not showing on the page, but it’s there, right inside <div id="ad">

Twitter has ads in Japan.  People were wondering what Twitter’s business model might be State-side, and this could be the start.

Before-I-could-push-submit-update: I sent my discovery to Tom, who also had no idea.  He used this thing called Google and found this post from a

month

year ago.  So it looks like the code’s been around, but many of us simply aren’t seeing the ads (yet).

What If Firefighters Ran the World?

“What If Firefighters Ran the World?”, a fun spot from Sprint, a current favorite of mine.

Tom has countered with DirecTV’s “We Go Viral”.

The HD Update

So all the channels I listed that I was looking forward to receiving back in Feb disappeared.

Yesterday Time Warner finally made an announcement regarding the new HD channels.

So by the end of the month I’ll have a good amount more to watch, if the channels actually use HD content, that is (unlike TBS HD’s stretchy broadcast).

I wish I would have gotten NHL HD earlier so I could have seen some games in HD, but at least I’ll finally have Versus HD for some of the playoffs.
