Finding Purpose

One blog I love reading is Kareem Mayan’s Weblog.  For some time now Kareem has been trying to figure out what his purpose in life is.  It’d be cliché to say he’s finding himself.  To someone not paying attention it may seem like that, but it’d be more accurate to say he knew himself, but didn’t know what could make him happy, only that he wasn’t happy with where he was.

His blog is a collection of fantastic quotes and links about life and happiness.  I’ve even reposted one of my favorites here.  It’s simple, and rings true.

Recently Kareem wrote about how he’s found his life’s purpose.

It was a great post.  A nice summary of how he got to where he is and when he figured out what he’s been searching for.

You already know you[r] purpose. It’s inside you right now. Nobody can tell you what it is. That’s one of the benefits of being human - you get to decide your path.

Do we all have a purpose?  Do we all need a purpose?  That’s one I haven’t figured out yet.  I know being happy is important, and living stress-free is the easiest road to happiness for me.  If I don’t find a purpose, I’ll just keep eliminating stressors.

Happy

When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down

100% of Those Surveyed Willing to Take Surveys

Have you ever been cold called to take a survey?  Have you done it?  No one I know has admitted it.

What about when you are walking down the street?  Are you willing to talk to the person with the clipboard?  Very, very few seem even willing to say “no thank you” before moving on.

Every day I read or watch some news story about some survey results.  Sometimes they let you in on the demographics of those who took the survey, but in the end, they’re all survey takers - those people willing to just stop whatever they’re doing and answer random questions.  There’s a certain type of person willing to do that and that alone makes me not represented in any survey result I’ve seen.

Bacon Floss

Yeah, that’s right, bacon floss.

It’s exactly what it should be, outside of actually being bacon you floss with.

Noah

Weighed Down

Almost five weeks old now.  It’s the fastest time can move while one’s a sleepless zombie.

What If Firefighters Ran the World?

“What If Firefighters Ran the World?”, a fun spot from Sprint, a current favorite of mine.

Tom has countered with DirecTV’s “We Go Viral”.

Color

Red is anger.
Red is love.

Green is greed.
Green is go.

Yellow is caution.
Yellow is happy.

Blue is sad.
Blue is life.

Black is scary.
Black is sexy.

White is empty.
White is pure.

Orange is… fruity?

Captain Labor

So I see this on the wall…

Labor Positions

I keep looking at the top, second to the left position:

All I kept thinking was “there must be a little captain in her”.

(in case you don’t get it)

Grand Central Terminal

Grand Central

As far as I can remember, today was the first day I ever stepped into Grand Central Terminal.  I was told it was odd since I’m a New Yorker, but I grew up on Long Island and now I live on the west side.  That’s all Penn Station, including my Amtrak trips.  It’s amazing how nice Grand Central is compared to Penn.  Penn supposedly used to have a nice look as well, and some older shots in the Wikipedia article and Google Image Search seem to confirm.

The reason for my monumental first trip wasn’t actually trip-related, it was just to nab some food of all things.  The “food court” matches the look, and is also a few notches nicer than the typical food you’d find in a train station.
