Grand Central Terminal
As far as I can remember, today was the first day I ever stepped into Grand Central Terminal. I was told it was odd since I’m a New Yorker, but I grew up on Long Island and now I live on the west side. That’s all Penn Station, including my Amtrak trips. It’s amazing how nice Grand Central is compared to Penn. Penn supposedly used to have a nice look as well, and some older shots in the Wikipedia article and Google Image Search seem to confirm.
The reason for my monumental first trip wasn’t actually trip-related, it was just to nab some food of all things. The “food court” matches the look, and is also a few notches nicer than the typical food you’d find in a train station.
Comments:
I grew up on Long Island (still live there) and had never been in Grand Central until this past October. I was amazed at how beautiful it is.
Posted by Michele on Dec 29, 2007 at 03:35 PMThe demolition of the old Penn Station was essentially the beginning of the preservation movement in the USA. The new Penn Station was pretty well universally decried as soulless, especially when compared with what it replaced.
Grand Central is indeed beautiful, but for stunning views, seek out some WW2 era pictures- shot prior to the building of the nearby skyscrapers that now blot out the sunlight.
