MLB Relies on Big Spenders

Here’s a good article from the the Chicago Sun-Times, Big spenders pump life into game, found via Skip from The Sports Economist.

It recognizes that while the Yankees and Red Sox spend a fortune, they bring money to the entire league and that the league is strengthened by big market success. It seems like an easy concept, but it seems to be one that few understand or recognize, go figure.

How do these arguments explain the Green Bay Packers, then? It seems as if the NFL should want to BURY this small-market team, but instead it puts the Pack on MNF in front of a national audience. -----
Posted by Paul Kremsky on 2004-12-09 17:12:47 After hearing the comments supposedly made by Nomar Garciaparra this week about playing second for the Yankees, I realized that, at the end of the day, the players don't really care. With free agency being what it is, most guys *do* end up getting their due financially at one point or another. This is why fans end up complaining about guys being "washed up" at the end of the careers, but unable to have that player dumped/traded because of their conracts. It is what it is, it seems.
